Identifying vulnerable children in need and securing the resources to transform their lives through education, nutrition, and holistic care in Baringo County, Kenya.
At Mustakabali Wetu, we are dedicated to shaping a brighter future for Africa by focusing on the most crucial aspects of community development. Our primary mission is to improve children's education, nutrition, and overall well-being, particularly for those from impoverished rural backgrounds in Mogotio, Baringo County, Kenya. We believe that investing in the next generation is key to sustainable progress. Every child we identify, every dollar we raise, and every program we fund is an investment in a future where poverty no longer determines a child's destiny.
Our Find & Fund program operates on a simple but powerful principle: there are vulnerable children in every community who have the potential to thrive if given the right support. Our job is to find these children, understand their needs, and connect them with the resources — financial, material, and human — that can transform their lives. This process requires deep community engagement, careful assessment, transparent financial management, and strong relationships with donors and supporters.
We believe that investing in the next generation is key to sustainable progress. Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed — regardless of their family's economic circumstances. Our Find & Fund program makes this belief a reality for children in Mogotio, Baringo County, Kenya.
We find vulnerable children through a community-based identification process that relies on local knowledge, school referrals, and family outreach. Our team, led by Chair Christine Ndoigo, maintains close relationships with schools, community leaders, religious institutions, and local government offices in Mogotio Township and surrounding areas. These connections help us identify children who are at risk of dropping out of school, suffering from malnutrition, or living in unsafe conditions.
Our identification process is thorough and respectful. We visit families in their homes, speak with parents and guardians, assess the child's living conditions, and review their school records. We prioritize children from the most vulnerable households — those where parents are unemployed, chronically ill, or earning less than $2 per day. We also pay special attention to orphans, children of single parents, and those living in informal settlements like Kapsigiroi, locally known as a "slum" area in Mogotio.
Once a child is identified, we conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to understand their specific situation and requirements. This assessment covers educational needs (school fees, supplies, uniforms), nutritional needs (daily meals, food security), health needs (medical care, psychosocial support), and living conditions (shelter, safety, family stability). Based on this assessment, we develop an individualized support plan for each child.
Our assessment process also considers the family context. We understand that supporting a child often means supporting their entire family. When we help a child stay in school, we also look at whether the family needs food assistance, healthcare support, or income-generating opportunities. This holistic approach ensures that our support creates lasting change rather than temporary relief.
Given limited resources, we must prioritize children based on the severity of their needs, the potential impact of our support, and the family's commitment to the child's education. Children facing the most extreme circumstances — such as orphans, children with disabilities, or those from households with no income — receive the highest priority. We also consider the child's academic potential and the family's willingness to engage with our programs.
Once enrolled in our program, each child receives a comprehensive support package that includes school fee coverage, school supplies, uniforms, nutritious meals, and access to our mentorship and psychosocial support programs. We maintain regular contact with the child, their family, and their school to monitor progress and adjust support as needed.
The majority of our funding comes from individual donors and child sponsors who believe in our mission. We offer several ways to give: one-time donations, recurring monthly contributions, child sponsorships, and program-specific donations. Every donation, regardless of size, makes a meaningful difference in the life of a child.
Our child sponsorship program allows donors to develop a personal connection with a specific child. Sponsors receive regular updates on their sponsored child's progress, including school reports, photos, and personal messages. This direct connection creates a powerful bond between donor and child, transforming a financial transaction into a meaningful relationship.
We organize fundraising events both locally and internationally to raise awareness and resources for our programs. These events include community dinners, charity walks, online campaigns, and partnership events with corporate sponsors. Our co-founder Lisa Anna Palmer leverages her network in Canada and internationally to organize fundraising activities that bring in crucial support.
We also participate in global giving campaigns such as Giving Tuesday, International Day of Charity, and end-of-year fundraising drives. These campaigns help us reach new donors and expand our supporter base beyond our immediate network.
We actively seek grants and institutional funding from foundations, government agencies, and international development organizations. Our team prepares detailed proposals, impact reports, and financial documentation to meet the requirements of grant-making institutions. While this funding can be competitive and time-consuming to secure, it provides significant resources that allow us to expand our programs and reach more children.
We maintain the highest standards of financial transparency and accountability. Every donation is tracked, every expense is documented, and every program is evaluated for impact. We provide regular financial reports to our board, donors, and supporters. Our commitment to transparency builds trust and ensures that every dollar donated creates maximum impact for the children we serve.
