Transforming Children's Lives in Baringo County

We help transform children's lives. If it weren't for our program, chances are that just like thousands of other children in Baringo County, these beautiful and talented children would be on the street and living in dire conditions. Instead, they are getting an education and nutritious meals and have dreams of becoming professionals who can give back to the community one day.

They love school and they are very grateful to be able to get an education and don't take the help and support they need for granted.

Our Mission and Purpose

We are a child support program to help children who are in great need to access nutritious food and education. In Kenya, accessing a good education requires children and youth to pay school fees starting in kindergarten, or what is known as "Baby Class." The fees range between $120.00 to $300.00 US per year, not including uniforms, books and other school supplies.

This, in a country where $3,600.00 USD per year is considered a very good salary. Mustakabali Wetu-Our Future is dedicated to covering school fees, food, and everyday expenses for children who are in great need. The parents or guardians of the children we help earn far less than the average, and can barely afford food, much less pay to send their children to school while earning as little as $2 dollars per day, or less than $500 per year.

The Reality of Education in Rural Kenya

Baringo County, located in the Rift Valley region of Kenya, faces significant challenges when it comes to child welfare and education. Many families in Mogotio Township and surrounding areas live below the poverty line, struggling to meet basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare. For these families, the cost of education — even at the primary level — is simply out of reach.

Without external support, children from these impoverished backgrounds often end up on the streets, engaged in child labour, or married off at a young age. The cycle of poverty continues from one generation to the next, with little hope for change. Mustakabali Wetu–Our Future exists to break this cycle by ensuring that every child in our care has access to the education and resources they need to build a better future.

Our organization is deeply rooted in the community we serve. We understand the local challenges, cultural dynamics, and specific needs of families in Mogotio because we are part of this community. This local knowledge allows us to deliver targeted, effective support that makes a real difference in the lives of the children and families we work with.

What Makes Us Different

  • Community-Based Approach: We are not an outside organization imposing solutions. We are from the community, for the community. Our programs are designed with input from local families, teachers, and community leaders.
  • Holistic Support: We don't just pay school fees. We provide nutritious meals, school supplies, uniforms, emotional support, and mentorship to ensure every child thrives in all aspects of life.
  • Long-Term Commitment: We stay with our children throughout their educational journey — from kindergarten through high school and beyond. We measure our success by the long-term outcomes for each child.
  • Transparency and Accountability: Every donation goes directly to supporting children. We maintain clear records and provide regular updates to our donors and supporters.
  • Local Leadership: Our team is led by people who understand the community intimately. Christine Ndoigo, our Chair, is a former schools inspector and community leader with decades of experience in Baringo and Nakuru counties.

Mustakabali Wetu–Our Future is headquartered in Athinai, a community within Mogotio Township in Baringo County, Kenya. Baringo County is part of the larger Rift Valley region, known for its diverse landscapes ranging from fertile highlands to arid lowlands. The county faces significant development challenges, including limited access to quality education, high poverty rates, and food insecurity in many areas.

While our primary focus is on Mogotio Township and surrounding areas in Baringo County, our vision extends to neighbouring communities in Nakuru, Turkana, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
